2016 Suddenly Feels Cool Again

If the internet has felt strangely familiar lately, there's a reason.

Ten years after 2016, the year has found its way back into pop culture. Old playlists are resurfacing, fashion trends are making another round, and people are sharing throwback photos complete with the filters and questionable editing choices we once thought looked incredible.

The whole thing has even earned a name: "2026 is the new 2016."

Of course, trends coming back around isn't anything new. Fashion has always recycled itself, and beauty certainly does the same. What makes this particular wave of nostalgia interesting is that people don't seem to be looking for an exact copy of the past. They're bringing back the parts they loved and leaving the rest behind.

You might love the makeup from ten years ago without wanting the heavy contour. You might miss the carefree feel of an old Instagram photo without wanting to bring back every filter. And you can appreciate a retro-inspired piece in your home without making the entire room look like a time capsule.

That mix of old and new is what makes nostalgia fun.

It's something that shows up in the products we keep around, too. Some designs stick with us because they simply work. A classic vanity mirror, a familiar getting-ready routine, or that one beauty tool you keep reaching for can feel timeless even as everything around it changes.

Maybe that's the best part about watching old trends come back. They remind us that not everything needs to be reinvented.

Sometimes a good thing is still a good thing ten years later.
