How to Switch Your Makeup From Summer to Fall

Posted

Transitioning from the hot summer days to cool fall weather isn’t just for your wardrobe but also your beauty routine. Fall makeup lets you experiment with bold colors and flawless coverage without worrying about the heat or feeling like you’re wearing too much makeup. Just like scarves, big sweater and boots, a fall makeup routine lets you wear on a little more without feeling overdone. Here are five ways to effortlessly switch your makeup from summer to fall.

Keep the SPF: Even though the temperature drops, SPF should be an all-year round part of your routine. The cooler months still give sun exposure despite the darker days. Make sure to wear your SPF under makeup or choose a BB cream with built-in sun protection as the base layer of all your makeup looks.

Increase the Coverage: Cooler weather means flawless complexions look natural versus being overdone. Ditch your tinted moisturizers for a medium to full coverage foundation. Use a lighted magnified makeup mirror with a damp sponge to achieve the perfect foundation application by being able get a flawless blend everytime.

Bold Cheeks: A flush of color on the cheeks gives a fresh-faced look anytime of year, but fall calls for plum and raspberry blush colors. For an intense look, use a power blush and apply in layers. If you’re looking for a natural and subtle flush, choose a cream blush and blend well with a synthetic hair brush or fingertips. You can even dot a bold lipstick on your cheeks and blend with fingertips to get a matching lip and cheek look.

Bold Lips: Wine, berry, reds and cherries are the lip colors of fall. For a less intense look, opt for a sheer lipstick or lip gloss formula. If you’re daring, try a liquid lipstick with a matching lip liner so you get all-day wear. PRO TIP: Use a handheld travel mirror with bright light when applying liquid lipstick to achieve a precise lip line and less clean-up after which is especially important with fast-drying liquid lipstick formulas.

Keep the Bronzer: As your natural summer tan fades, use a bronzer to keep the look of warmth on your face. A sheer bronze veil around the perimeter of the face and cheeks keeps the warmth to the skin without looking too dark for cooler weather.
